Kia ora, I will be sharing with you what I have been doing for Novel study this

term I have been Reading Freak the mighty.

This post is about task I do to tell you about my book.

Here is my work:..

Before Reading

I predict the book will be about……..

Two boys that become best friends and do every thing together.

Chapters 1-3

Use your white hat and list information about the text.

Freak the mighty is about a boy named Maxwell Kane and he gets called stupid

on a daily, worse still everyone says he looks like his fearsome dad. 

Freak the Mighty is also about a boy that gets put down because he is a midget

man and has a big brain, But they both becomes friend and hence the title

Freak the Mighty.

These are the awards the he has won:

Shamus Award for Best Original P.I. Paperback, John Newbery Medal

He has one these awards from writing books and publishing them.

Create a ‘Top Five’ list of the most important parts of the book.  Explain why

you chose these.

-  Title 

Is very important because it kind of give the read information what the book is about and hooks the reader in.

-  The front cover

    Gives some information about what your reading and should look interesting to the reader. 

- The back of the book where the blurb is

Interesting because it literally tells you what the book is about.

- The author

Tells you who wrote the book

 

- The page numbers

Tells you what page your on and helps you remember what page you were reading last.

Write an acrostic poem using the main theme of the book.

Chapters 4-8

Design a bookmark featuring the title, author and a summary of the book.

Design 5 questions that could be used in a test about the book.

1. What is Freaks name.

2. Where is Maxwell's Dad.

3. Who's the author

4. Can you describe Maxwell in 5 words.

5. Can you describe Kevin in 3 words.

Retell an interesting part of the book in your own words.

Maxwell and Kevin were leaving the fireworks and saw some bullies that were looking for them to try and hurt Kevin and Maxwell. They run and Maxwell got confused on what way was left and right, eventually he went the right way and got stuck in mud. After that they saw a police and the police escorted them home.

Chapter 9-12

Create a word search using important names and places from the book.

Choose 6 new words from your novel that are unfamiliar to you 

and find the definition and list them.

Write a set of true/false questions about the book.

Kevin dies at the end of the book? True/False

Maxwell has a dad? True/False

Maxwell and Kevin were best friends? True/False

Kevin has the name Freak? True/False

Maxwell gets called stupid? True/False
